Time flies. Looking back on the past year, the School of Software Engineering (SSE) has earnestly studied and implemented the important instructions from the Secretary General Xi Jinping regarding employment for college graduates. Focusing on the fundamental task of cultivating people by strengthening moral education, and adhering to the work philosophy of “everyone is a career worker, based on demand, and leveraging our strengths,” we have carried out employment work in an orderly manner and achieved remarkable results.
With concerted efforts to boost employment and a collaborative spirit to forge ahead, let’s now take a look back at the employment work of SSE in 2024.
I. Strengthening Mechanisms to Create a New Pattern for Employment Wor
SSE has formulated the Action Plan for Promoting High-Quality and Sufficient Student Employment. By harnessing leadership, management, peer support, alumni networks, and corporate partnerships, we have established a comprehensive network where everyone has a role to play. This approach lays a solid foundation for effective career development.

An employment leadership group has been set up to develop relevant employment policies, address employment-related issues, lead alumni outreach efforts, foster university-enterprise collaborations, and organize employment events.
A dedicated student employment service team has been established to handle specific employment tasks, including career consulting, organizing further study and employment guidance, matchmaking with recruiters, dissemination of job openings, and the collection of employment documentation.

II. Using a Demand-Oriented Approach to Expand Employment Opportunities
(a) Ongoing Corporate Visits
In 2024, the college continued to systematically plan and conduct a series of corporate visits and job expansion activities. Over 600 students participated in visits to more than 20 companies, including China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, Kingsoft, Huawei, and iFlytek. Additionally, one guidance counselor took up a position for on-the-job training at Shanghai Electric.

(b) In-Depth University-Enterprise Collaboration
SSE partnered with Baidu to jointly build an AI Education Innovation Center and launched the first PaddlePaddle Class in China, which was reported by the People’s Daily. The school also engaged in technical exchanges with 16 experts, including Chen Hongyu, Director of University Collaboration at Xiaomi Group’s Technology Committee, to explore cooperation in talent cultivation. SSE also collaborated with Wuhan Leaddo Measuring & Control Co.,Ltd. to establish a joint research center for rail transit vision.

(c) Encouraging Student Internships
SSE actively promoted internship opportunities, resulting in over 100 student placements at leading tech companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, and other industry giants.

III. Paving the Way for Student Success Through Career Guidance
(a) Establishing a Career Counseling Center for College Students
In 2024, SSE launched the “Code for Future” Career Support Station. Fifteen professionals with rich experience in career planning and employment guidance were appointed as full-time and part-time career consultants. These included teachers, industry experts, counselors, corporate HR representatives, and alumni. The official launch ceremony of the Career Support Station was successfully held on January 17th, where Jing Pengfei, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs’ Office and Director of the Career Guidance and Service Center, presented the plaque.

(b) Refining the Employment Service System
A comprehensive career planning service system for college students, encompassing “Enlightenment—Growth—Harvest—Gratitude,” has been established. The college has systematically conducted career planning guidance activities, including postgraduate entrance exam preparation, recommended admission, overseas study, and employment experience-sharing salons, tailored to different types and levels. These activities aim to help students enhance self-awareness, make early plans, and boost their capabilities, thereby opening up new employment opportunities with a fresh job-seeking mindset. In 2024, the career counseling center provided over 400 individual and group consultations and offered interview venues for more than 100 students online and offline.

The first Career Planning Competition of SSE was held, earning the title of “Outstanding Organization Unit” in the second Career Planning Competition of HUST. Yu Liuhuiting won the second prize in the Growth Track and advanced to the Hubei Provincial Competition.

Precise employment information was sent to students.
The student employment service team compiled a directory of employment units, collected and organized employment information, and regularly pushed it in a focused and hierarchical manner. In 2024, relying on the employment information notification group, more than 660 employment messages were pushed to the graduating class of 2025. Meanwhile, nearly a hundred employment units were received.

(c) Deepening International Exchange and Cooperation
SSE has engaged in in-depth discussions with universities such as the University of New South Wales and the University of Bristol to provide students with international learning platforms.

IV. Building Momentum and Looking Ahead
In 2024, SSE achieved an overall employment rate of 97.75% among graduates, ranking at the forefront of the university. More than 20 graduates chose to work in the western regions, grassroots-level, and key national units, with five becoming selected civil servants. In key national industries and in the places where the motherland needs them most, our software graduates are making their mark.
Looking ahead, SSE will always keep in mind the mission of “cultivate talent for the Party and the State.” With unyielding passion, we will embrace every challenge, nurture brilliant software talents for the new era. Together, we will write a new chapter in SSE’s talent cultivation story!
