Class 2004 alumni celebrate the 20th graduation anniversary at SSE

Time:November 30, 2024

On November 30, Class 2004 alumni of the School of Software Engineering (SSE) returned to HUST, a journey bringing them back to their college years.

They revisited classrooms, school canteens, and the History Museum of HUST in the morning.

In the afternoon, the unveiling ceremony for the taikonaut statue was held in the reading corridor. Wang Shixian, Chair of the SSE Committee, and alumnus Shen Hong unveiled the plaque. This statue, donated by Class 2004 alumni, conveys their best wishes for fellow students, SSE, and HUST.

All alumni posed for a photograph in the teaching building of SSE.

In the exchange session hosted by alumnus Shen Hong, Wang Shixian extends warm welcome to all returning alumni. He emphasizes that Class 2004 holds special significance as the school’s inaugural class. “I am proud of our alumni who are now industrial professionals and successful entrepreneurs. Among them, visionary entrepreneurs like Zhang Jie, founder of VIPThink, have particularly distinguished themselves,” he remarks. After presenting an overview of SSE, he further suggests forging closer connections with alumni in such areas as research collaboration, talent cultivation, and employment & internship. He also looks forward to more similar reunions in the future.

Alumni representative Chen Chuanpeng, Vice General Manager of the IT headquarters at Changjiang Securities, expresses heartfelt gratitude for SSE and determination to bring more glory to their alma mater.

Subsequently, teachers and alumni engage in lively discussions. As the inaugural class of SSE, Class 2004 graduates pursue excellence in their posts, carrying forward the motto “Virtue, Erudition, Truth, Innovation.” Most of them attain career success as senior executives, technical directors, and entrepreneurs.

As a national model software institute approved by the Ministry of Education, SSE has developed in line with national key strategic needs, industrial trajectories, and technological frontiers since 2002. By virtue of educational reforms, it has produced over 10,000 undergraduates and postgraduates. These high-caliber graduates bring fresh blood into China’s IT sector. The school also prioritizes alumni engagement, for which it has established a working group in charge of the alumni association.

Attendees in the event include Shen Gang, Vice Dean of SSE, Chen Chuanbo, Former Dean of SSE, and Wu Tao, Chair of the Labor Union, as well as teachers and officials from relevant departments.
