2024 Freshman Season | "Meeting You, Full of Joy" – Successful Completion of the 2024 Undergraduate Freshman Welcome Event at the School of Software Engineering

Time:November 30, 2024

2024 Freshman Season

As early autumn arrives, a new chapter begins.

It’s the season of welcoming new faces,

"Meeting You, Full of Joy."

Let’s dive into the scenes of the freshman welcome event

and explore the stories of our new SSE members!

Leadership Visits

On August 30, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee, Xie Zhengxue, visited the freshman welcome area of the School of Software Engineering. He warmly greeted the new students, encouraging them to study diligently and focus on key technologies in the software field to contribute to the nation’s technological self-reliance and strength. His heartfelt words conveyed high expectations and hope.

Party Secretary Wang Shixian and Deputy Party Secretary Xu Jie also visited the welcome area, checking on the registration process, interacting with new students, and taking commemorative photos.

After the students settled into their dormitories, the School’s leaders, faculty class advisors, student assistant advisors, and counselors visited the dormitories to check on the students’ living conditions. They encouraged the freshmen to quickly adapt to university life, make plans, and set directions. They also reassured the students that they could reach out to the School for help and emphasized that they should feel at home here. The care from faculty and staff made the new students feel the warmth of the SSE family.

Welcome Gifts

The School prepared thoughtful welcome gifts for the freshmen, including custom mouse pads and cardholders. Additionally, personalized Coca-Cola bottles bearing each student’s name were provided to wish them happiness in their university life.

Welcome Event

The welcome event featured live photo updates throughout the day, capturing every exciting moment and creating precious memories for the new students.

Counselor Tian Chunyu assigned a special summer task to the freshmen: write a letter to their future selves and deposit it in a time capsule during registration. The School will safeguard these letters for four years and return them to the students upon graduation, allowing them to reflect on their growth over time. The activity saw enthusiastic participation from the new students, with each letter representing a hope for the future.

At the welcome site, the SSE "Soft Creation for the Future" Student Innovation Team showcased their latest projects. Recently, the team won first prize at the National Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition. By sharing their accomplishments, they encouraged the new students to explore innovation in science and technology, discover their potential, and consider joining the team to bring fresh energy into its ranks.

The Woodpecker Volunteer Team, formed by members of the SSE Volunteer Department, also participated in the event, providing practical services. The team offered assistance with computer-related issues, including software installation and hardware maintenance. Using their technical knowledge, the volunteers performed on-site repairs for students, demonstrating the School’s commitment to service and volunteerism.

Volunteers Support

Both online and offline, the seamless execution of the welcome process relied on the dedication of volunteers.

Online, volunteers actively contacted new students, helping them complete their online registration and answering their questions. Offline, volunteers in blue uniforms and red armbands could be seen everywhere, extending care to the new students. They arrived early at the welcome area to set up and awaited the students' arrival. At the welcome desk, they distributed custom welcome gift packages and answered questions with enthusiasm. In the dormitories, volunteers guided students through check-in procedures and facial recognitionverification.

High School Classmates Reunited

In a delightful coincidence, two students from the same high school class at Shanxi University Affiliated High School in Taiyuan, Shanxi—Wang Ziqi and Zhao Jiacheng—both received admission offers from HUST. Even more surprisingly, they enrolled in the same program at the School of Software Engineering, becoming classmates once again.

"When I found out we were admitted to the same university and program, I was thrilled. But learning that we were assigned to the same class made me even more excited. I hope we can continue working hard together and strive for excellence!" Zhao Jiacheng said.

A New Journey Awaits

A new chapter begins,

and unexplored territories lie ahead.

With youthful aspirations and dreams of software innovation,

we wish the 2024 freshmen a fulfilling university life

and success in writing their unique stories at SSE!
