The National Finals of 2023 Computer System Development Capability Competition Operating System Design Competition was held in Sun Yat-sen University (Haizhu Campus) from August 18th to 23rd, and 3 students (Huang Junlin, Jia Chaobo, Lin Boheng)from the team of SSE, under the guidance of Prof. Su Shuguang, won the Third Prize in the Finals.
The team’s project "Linux Execution Control System Based on File Extension Attributes" was inspired by the operating system leader company,Kylin. The goal of the project is to prevent the launch of unauthorized programs or scripts (potentially malicious) on the Linux system. SSE team overcame the difficulties in monitoring pipelines and symlinks, eventually achieving perfect control and review of program and script launches in the Linux system. After intense competition in stages like PPT presentation, Q&A and on-site demonstration, the team finally won the third prize.
The competition was initiated by the system capability cultivation research expert group, co-hosted bythe Association of Computing Education in Chinese Universities and the demonstration universities for research projects system capability cultivation, with Sun Yat-sen University organizing.Co-organizers included the Technical Committee of Systems Software of Chinese Computer Federation, Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc., supported by Huawei TechnologiesCo., Ltd., KylinSoftwareCo., Ltd.,Loongson Technology Co., Ltd., etc.. The competition aimed to promote professional development and reform in the innovative talent training system in the field of computer science, cultivating reserve talents for China’s high-end chips and key basic software. It encouraged students to design and implement comprehensive computer systems, fostering system-level design, analysis, optimization, and application capabilities, and enhancing students’ technological innovation, engineering practice, and team collaboration skills.
SSE has always been committed to cultivating “solid fundamentals, strong capabilities” in innovative talents, focusing on the training of “system capabilities” represented by operating systems, and has achieved a series of significant results, highly recognized by society and the industry. Next, in the grand context of the nationalization of operating systems, SSE will fully leverage the leading and exemplary role of competitions in skill improvement, promoting learning, teaching, and research through competitions, enhancing students’ operating system design and innovation capabilities, and nurturing more innovative and composite talents in operating systems.
