On December 11, at the 5th Gengshu Forum of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and the 80th HUST Alumni Forum, Wu Jie, Founder & CEO of Shimo Docs and Class 2003 alumnus of School of Software Engineering (SSE), was invited to address the forum.

Major attendees include Wang Shixian, Chair of the SSE Committee; Ma Guobin, Deputy Director of the Office for Alumni Work and International Affairs; and Zhang Shaohao, Vice Chair of the School of Mechanical Science & Engineering Committee. Zhu Songqing, Chairman of HGTECH; Le Tian, Product Head of Shimo Docs; Zhou Xiaoping, Technical Head of Shimo Docs; Gao Feng, Supervisor of Genshu Innovation Education Foundation and Head of Genshu Forum of Innovation & Entrepreneurship; and Zheng Kai, Technical Director of CESEC.

In his speech, Gao Feng introduces that the Gengshu Prize for Innovation Education was established to reward teachers and young scholars pioneering innovation practice, and the Gengshu Forum of Innovation & Entrepreneurship was set up to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship education. In the forum, renowned entrepreneurs, business leaders, and experts will be invited to share their insights and discuss new trends and developments in the sector.

In his presentation, Wu Jie leads in with his career journey and explains how he has grown into an entrepreneur after several job changes and workplace relocations. He proceeds to introduce the evolution of the SaaS-based online collaborative office platform and enumerates signature products across different stages, spanning desktop software, networked office tools, SaaS collaborative platforms, and AI-driven workspaces, with a focus on the evolution of AI-powered office systems. Speaking of his aspiration and the future of Shimo Docs, he is ambitious to create a product that embodies cultural and ethical values and accommodates users’ needs in the era of AI.

He also mentions his visits to the Middle East, Singapore, Silicon Valley, and Europe. He stresses that China is a vital hub for global innovation and entrepreneurship, with favorable conditions to cultivate numerous innovation pioneers. He advises listeners to foster a global perspective by going abroad and refrain from the meaningless rat race.

He also shares his company’s vision, design philosophy, and the backstory of its logo, through which he conveys his reflection on aesthetics, society, and self-identity. He encourages the audience to break free from a fixed career path, urging them to identify and pursue what they are passionate about.

During the Q&A session, Wu Jie highlights that sentiment nourishment is as significant as economic growth nowadays. When asked about implementing corporate ethos and principles, he stresses the pivotal role of leaders in materializing the company culture.

In the afternoon, Wu Jie and his team visit SSE and hold talks with the school leaders, including Wang Shixian, Chair of the SSE Committee; Shen Gang, Vice Dean of SSE; Guo Lianbo, Assistant Dean OF SSE; Shi Guiling, Director of Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office; Ma Zhongping, Director of Alumni Affairs Office. On behalf of SSE, Wang Shixian extends warm welcome to Wu Jie and his team. He outlines the school’s status quo and future planning and takes much pride in the career success of alumni. On his part, Wu Jie expresses his gratitude for SSE and readiness to cooperate with the school.

Wu Jie, Founder and CEO of Shimo Docs, obtained his bachelor’s degree from the School of Software Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and a master’s degree in Computer Science at New York University. He once worked at SAP before co-founding Shimo.im with Wu Bing and Chen Xu in 2014. In February 2020, the company secured tens of millions of U.S. dollars in Round B+ funding. In May, Wu Bing and Wu Jie were nominated to Fortune magazine’s 2020 “40 under 40” list of China’s most influential business leaders.
