On April 18, Chen Hongyu, head of university collaborations for the Xiaomi Group Technical Committee, led a delegation of 16 experts to the School of Software Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), for technical exchanges and discussions on talent cultivation collaborations. Participants from the School included Party Secretary Wang Shixian, Dean Professor Bai Xiang, Vice Dean Professor Shen Gang, and representatives of young faculty members.
In the meeting, Wang Shixian warmly welcomed the Xiaomi Group leaders and experts on behalf of the School. He emphasized that Xiaomi, as a renowned technology innovation enterprise in China, has great potential for collaboration with the School, given its strong capabilities in artificial intelligence research and the cultivation of exceptional software engineers.
Chen Hongyu stated that Xiaomi actively explores multiple technological fields and strives to build an integrated ecosystem encompassing people, vehicles, and homes. He also provided a detailed overview of Xiaomi Group’s technological development strategy, which focuses on deep engagement with foundational technologies, long-term and consistent investments, seamless integration of software and hardware, and the comprehensive empowerment of AI.
Following this, Professor Bai Xiang’s team presented the latest achievements in fields such as autonomous driving and multimodal large models to the Xiaomi representatives.
Subsequently, Xiaomi’s business team conducted group discussions with Professor Bai Xiang’s team and young faculty members from the School on technical issues. Both sides engaged in constructive exchanges on cutting-edge topics of mutual interest in academia and industry and discussed current research directions in universities alongside practical needs faced by enterprises.
After the meeting, both parties expressed their intent to establish a closer collaborative model, leveraging their respective strengths to jointly tackle significant industry challenges and advance related research and technologies towards greater maturity and widespread application.
School leadership and Xiaomi’s university collaboration representatives also discussed various topics such as joint talent cultivation, industry-education integration, co-development of IoT laboratories, and collaborative R&D projects. Xiaomi Group will partner with the School in multiple areas, including industry-academia-research initiatives, to accelerate the development of China’s autonomous driving industry. This collaboration aims to contribute actively to the transformation and upgrading of intelligent transportation. Both parties are keen to promote broader collaboration in joint research and talent cultivation, utilizing their advantages to establish a leading platform for AI technology industrialization and talent pipeline development.
