The Grand Final of the 8th China International College Students’“Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held from November 10th to 13th. The project “AI Baby - Maks Searching for Relatives No Longer Lonely”, led by Jianzhong Sheng, a doctoral student from the class of 2015 at the SSE, and the project “Qiming Intelligent Assistive Technology for the Blind - Filling the Vision World with AI”, led by Jiangnan Zhou, a graduate of 2017, respectively won the gold medal in the public welfare group and the entrepreneurship group in the “Youth Red Dream Building Journey” track.
Themed “I Dare to Venture, I will Create,” the 8th China International College Students’“Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. This competition aims to enhance students’capabilities, expedite the development of innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and serve as a pivotal platform for fostering mass entrepreneurship and innovation. The national finals of this competition were conducted online, organized by Chongqing University, boasting over 14.5 million participants and more than 3.4 million projects.
Since the commencement of the competition in April, SSE has been dedicated to offering students detailed services and comprehensive support in team recruitment, training guidance, and logistical assistance. SSE has consistently prioritized innovation and entrepreneurship, establishing a comprehensive practice education and innovation-oriented talent cultivation system that emphasizes“integration of industry and education, collaboration of industry and academia, and unity of theory and practice.”. Students nurtured through this system showcase remarkable innovative abilities. Numerous graduates of SSE are now teaching in prestigious universities globally, and several alumni have been recognized as Huawei’s “Genius Youth,” featured in the Forbes China Celebrity List, and Hurun Entrepreneurs Under 30 List.

Project Overview: The AI Baby team pioneered the application of image restoration technology to search for relatives, and developed “AI Baby: an image super-resolution restoration system for relatives search” which effectively solved the core issue of unclear facial images in searching for relatives. The search tape developed by “AI Baby” became nationally popular. “AI Baby” has already assisted the police in successfully locating 9 long-missing children, including Zhuo Sun, receiving attention and reports from authoritative media like CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, and People's Daily. The founder of the team, Jianzhong, Sheng, was honored with the 2022 “Hubei Upward-looking Youth” award and the “Youth May Fourth Medal” of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Project Overview: The Qiming blindness assistive team is dedicated to leveraging artificial intelligence technology, assistive functionalities, and human-machine interaction methods to enhance the quality of life for the 17.5 million individuals with visual impairment in China and 350 million people who suffer from blindness or visual impairment worldwide, creating a “blind road” in the information world. To address the major challenges faced by visually impaired people: internet access, traveling, and shopping – the team developed the “3+X” products series, featuring Qiming Wheel, Qiming Eye Walk, and Qiming Storeat its core, increasingly aiding the blind and receiving widespread attention from society.
