Graduate students who have obtained a full-time undergraduate or master's degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology are exempt from the exam.

V. Requirements for Professional Practice

Professional practice is an important part of the training of a professional master's program. Students of professional master's degrees are encouraged to practice in enterprises through long-term and short-term internship programs. The content of practice includes participating in the on-campus teaching and experiments assistantship, the research projects of the supervisor, and off-campus internships in enterprises. The professional practice time of graduate students with 2 years or more working experience in enterprises is not less than 6 months, and that of other graduate students is not less than 1 year.

The professional practice of part-time graduate students with Professional Degrees can be carried out in combination with their own jobs.

VI. Research Requirements

1. Thesis Proposal

Through the proposal defense, students can formally enter the thesis writing. See the detailed requirements in the Assessment Implementation Standards.

The thesis proposal should contain the following contents:

(1) The source and significance of the research subject;

(2) Literature review and trends on the research subject at home and abroad;

(3) Research contents and research methods;

(4) Theoretical framework and expected results;

(5) References.

2. Interim Progress Report

See the detailed requirements for the interim assessment in the Assessment Implementation Standards.

The Interim Progress Report should contain the following contents:

(1) The progress of the thesis after the proposal report;

(2) The outcomes;

(3) Plans and measures for the next stage.

VII. Dissertation Requirements

The selection of thesis topics should be derived from practical engineering or have a clear engineering application background. It can be a complete design or research project of an engineering technology, a technical breakthrough or transformation, or the development and research of new processes, equipment, materials, or products.

The thesis work must be completed independently by the master's degree students in engineering under the guidance of a supervisor. It should meet the corresponding technical requirements and have a sufficient workload, demonstrating the author's ability to comprehensively apply scientific theories, methods, and technological means to solve engineering problems. The thesis should possess advancement and practicality while achieving good results. Other requirements shall also comply with relevant regulations set by the university.

VIII. Requirements for Graduation and Degree

1. Graduate students who complete the prescribed content of their training program within the specified period of study, pass the assessment, and successfully defend their thesis, will be granted graduation and awarded a diploma upon approval by the Academic Degree Review Committee or Party-Government meeting of the school (department), as well as final approval from the university. Those who meet the requirements for degree conferral may apply accordingly through proper procedures. If they do not meet these requirements upon graduation, they can still apply for a degree within one year if they subsequently fulfill them. However, only one time of application for a degree after graduation is allowed.

2.Graduate students who have completed the basic study period and within the maximum study period, have not met the graduation requirements but have met the completion requirements, can apply for a Certificate of Completion.

Specific requirements refer to the relevant documents of the university.

IX. Other Requirements

Other training requirements shall be implemented in accordance with the Regulations on the Cultivation of Master Students of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
